1.  The Foundation of the Plantation

When the 21st century comes, a “Green Storm” is also brought into the new time. People are becoming increasingly prefer nature stuff, including nature food and nature medicines.  A revolution of the Chinese Medicine started with the awareness of for poisonous effect of chemical medicine. The nature medicine, superior to others forparticular curative effect, less toxicity and abundant sources, is now more and more important in TCM industry all over the world.

Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine, which has more than 5000 years history and over 10000 species, is a precious heritage of the Chinese. China was thought to be a country powerful of nature medicine, however the fact is different. The main reason is that the production of herbal medicine in China is still in a disordered environment. The overscaled heavy metal and chemical component, the instability of useful element, has badly restricted the promotion of modernization of the Chinese herbal medicine and has blocked the Chinese herbal medicine stepping into world market.

The modernization of the Chinese herbal medicine will start from the medicine source. We build up a small Lingzhi model plantation after one year’s experiment with the assistance and support of Beijing Tailing Tang, Sichuan Chinese Medicine Research Centre and South-West Chemical Industry College. We selected the medicine Lingzhi breed to cultivate the best Lingzhi aiming at safety, effectively, stability and controllability, working a way to bring the Lingzhi products into international market.

2. Overview of the Lingzhi Plantation in Jiangyou

Jiangyou is the hometown of the famous ancient Chinese port LiBai. Its longitude is East 104˚31'- 105˚17' and latitude North 31˚32'- 32˚19'. There’re many interests including Chinese key cultural relic protection sites – Mt. Douwei, Temple Yunyan, Sword Door and Road Shu. This is a door leading to mythical world “Nine Villages” and the fairyland “Yellow Dragon Temple”. The plantation has a subtropical humid monsoon climate. The average sunshine time is 1367 hours per year and annual rain is 1100mm, with a relative humidity 80%. The mountain belongs to Dragon Door System. Its altitude is about 600 meters and the average temperature is 16˚C. The seasons are very clear and the temperature changes a lot from daytime to night. The weather here is suitable for growing Lingzhi. There’re lots of wild natural Lingzhi in the forest around the plantation area in summer and autumn.

The resource of Qinggang wood, which is necessary for growing Lingzhi, is abundant in the City Jiangyou. There’re large forest areas in the towns Dakang, Wudu, Yongsheng, Yanmen and Majiao etc. The plantation itself borders on Beichuan, Pingwu and Qingchuan, all of which are the natural agaric fields. This could be a good support in the expanding of planting in the future.

The plantation was well supported by the local government and the local pubic are sincerely hope to regulate the forest industry by Lingzhi growing and improve the local economy strategically.

3.  The Working Environment of the Plantation

With the support and guidance of Sichuan Chinese Medicine Research Centre and South-West chemical industry college, the GAP standard was brought into the whole function.

(1)     Source: This is the key aspect. It is necessary for the breed to be examined before being planted. We invited Professor ZiYing Wong (Suchuan Resource Department) as an advisor for breed selection. Professor ZhuoRen Wong (Mushroom Species Experiment and Research Centre, Huazhong Agriculture University) and Professor ShuTing Chang (OBE,MSc,PhD,FIIB,FWAAS, and Hong Kong Chinese University) are also contributed into the scientific and technical support for selecting the best Lingzhi Species.

(2)     The whole plantation occupies 97 acres (21339 m²). 19 big shed were built and wells were dug as water supply system. All the Lingzhi was grown in the Qinggong Wood with no pesticide, no fertilizer. (Disinfected with lime when necessary)

(3)     Detailed record is made for the whole production line. ( According to the GAP standard)

(4)     Exposed in sunshine to dry naturally not drying manually. Enclosed by new bags, preventing pollution.

(5)     Aim of Quality: Amylose over 35%. Other effective components are higher and the effects are more distinct.

4.  The Signs of Lingzhi’s Maturation& Picking Method

The main signs suggesting Lingzhi is mature for picking off are as below:

(1)     The top cover of Lingzhi stops growing bigger. (2)The color of Lingzhi’s top cover remain even and on the edge there’s a same-colored curl circle. (3) Many Lingzhi spores fly out. (4) Under the top cover the color is even

Picking method of Lingzhi:

When picking up the Lingzhi, firstly we cut the bottom of a Lingzhi by a bush-shaving scissors. Be careful, do not touch the top cover of the Lingzhi and the under cover. Do not wash the Lingzhi, preventing the stems of Lingzhi touching with other Lingzhi’s covers. Get rid of the earth and other impurity, and cut the too long part of the stem from the Lingzhi. Then arrange them separately in the sunshine or in the wind to make them dry. Finally, sort and pack these Lingzhi according to different levels into clean bags or pollution-proof bags.

Therefore, the Lingzhi picked and sorted under the GAP standard are particularly with good quality. Contracted by the GMP standard and highly concentrated, Concord Sunchih products will be absorbed most effectively and will bring health to everybody.
